Justin Bieber collapsed on stage from shortness of breath during a performance in London on Thursday night, representatives for the Canadian teen pop star said.

“[Justin's] heading to the doctor now,” Bieber’s spokeswoman said. “He fainted and took a 20-minute reprieve and was given oxygen.”

Bieber, 19, returned to the stage after the break to finish the show.

“Justin got very light of breath; the whole show he has been complaining,” Bieber’s manager, Scooter Braun, told the crowd in several amateur videos posted on the internet. “He’s backstage with the EMTs [emergency medical technicians] and the doctor.”

Bieber’s spokeswoman said the singer ignored doctors’ orders and returned to the O2 arena stage to finish the performance.

The singer had not been suffering from any health issues prior to the show, she added.

Fans had already started circulating the hashtag #JustinTakeABreak on Twitter after news of his collapse spread.

Bieber was performing for the third out of four nights at the O2 as part of the European leg of his Believe world tour.

The incident follows the singer’s late arrival on stage at the venue on Monday night, after which he issued a public apology to angry fans and parents.

There were no major surprises as Canada’s reigning pop princess and prince cleaned up with the most 2013 Juno Award nominations.

Mission, B.C., native Carly Rae Jepsen and Stratford, Ont.’s Justin Bieber lead the pack of multiple nominees for the country’s top music awards with five and four nods each, and will face off in four categories.

Jepsen’s Kiss and Bieber’s Believe are both in the running for album of the year along with Quebec star Celine Dion’s Sans Attendre, and records from two Vancouver pop bands – Hedley’s Storms and Marianas Trench’s Ever After.

Jepsen, 27, and Bieber,18, are also up for the Juno Fan Choice Award — along with Dion, Toronto rapper Drake, Hedley, 78-year-old Montreal poet-singer-songwriter Leonard Cohen, Marianas Trench, Toronto band Metric, this year’s Juno Awards host and Vancouver crooner Michael Buble, and Alberta rockers Nickelback — and artist-of-the-year opposite Toronto EDM star Deadmau5, Scottish-born, Ontario-raised country-soul performer Johnny Reid, and Cohen.

Jeps and the Biebs’ final competing category is for pop album of the year with Victoria, B.C., native Nelly Furtado’s The Spirit Indestructible, Abbotsford, B.C’s Victoria Duffield’s Shut Up and Dance, and Ottawa’s Kristina Maria’s Tell the World also in the race.

The only edge Jepsen has over Bieber, who gave her career a major boost when he got her signed to his manager Scooter Braun’s School Boy Records in the U.S., is she is also up for single of the year for Call Me Maybe.

Her huge hit, which recently saw her nominated for two Grammys — neither of which she won — will compete against Hedley’s Kiss You Inside Out, Toronto pop-punk band Billy Talent’s Viking Death March, Toronto singer-songwriter Serena Ryder’s Stompa and Saskatoon retro-rock band The Sheepdogs’ The Way it is for best single.

Jepsen has also been confirmed to perform at the April 21 Junos live broadcast on CTV from Regina’s Brant Centre along with Buble, Billy Talent and Marianas Trench.

“She’s a really proud Canadian, like she’s very supportive of the Juno Awards, and we’re thrilled to have her,” said CARAS (Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences) president Melanie Berry at Monday’s nominations announcement.

Attendance by Bieber, who was snubbed by this year’s Grammys — which prompted a Twitter outburst by Braun — is looking slim since he’s on tour in Europe at that time.

Still, Berry hasn’t totally given up hope.

“Well, right now he’s scheduled to be on tour,” said Berry. “Now the nominations are out so now we start to program the show. We just have to wait and see. He’s definitely done well in the nominations and we have 60 days or so to figure the rest out.”

Pop music also figures prominently in the international album of the year race, which pits British boy band One Direction’s Up All Night against country-pop music star Taylor Swift’s Red, British folk-rock band Mumford & Sons’ Babel (this year’s album of the year Grammy winner), Maroon 5′s Overexposed and Rod Stewart’s Merry Christmas Baby.

Otherwise, Dion, Cohen, Hedley, Marianas Trench, The Sheepdogs, Billy Talent and Metric are among a large group of artists with three nominations a piece.

K.D. Lang was previously announced as this year’s inductee into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame.

Justin Bieber has proclaimed himself to be pro-life and his mom Pattie Mallette explained to Today about the sexual abuse she suffered before becoming pregnant and how she was determined to make it through a difficult pregnancy situation and give birth to Bieby. Pattie, who wrote a book about it, told Kathie Lee Gifford:

‘I’ve learned it’s normal and natural for anybody who’s been through sexual abuse to carry that shame and that blame and feel like there’s something wrong with you. So I definitely carried that.’ The shame was so much Mallette attempted to kill herself. She told Gifford that the suicide attempt was ‘a culmination of, you know, built up over the years with the abuse and the pain and at the time I was messed up with all the drugs and alcohol. I was in a depression and the drugs and alcohol kind of spurred that on some more.’

By the age of 17, Mallette became pregnant with Justin, and at the time, she was encouraged to abort the baby. Pattie: ‘I just knew I couldn’t. I just knew I couldn’t. I just know I had to keep him. And, do the best. I, you know, I didn’t know how I was going to do it. But I just knew that I couldn’t, I couldn’t abort. I had to do my best. I had to see what I could do. And I was determined to do whatever it took.

I know this sounds crazy, but he sounded like he was singing. He did,. It was like this, like, ‘A hah, a hah.’ And I was like, ‘Oh my gosh, it is so precious and amazing. I just want to squeeze him.’’ Justin told Rolling Stone: ‘I really don’t believe in abortion.. It’s like killing a baby.’

And asked about whether he supported abortion in cases of rape or incest, the music journal indicated Bieber said, ‘Um. Well, I think that’s really sad, but everything happens for a reason. I guess I haven’t been in that position, so I wouldn’t be able to judge that.’ But Rolling Stone issued a ‘correction’ after initially publishing the quote and the correction makes it clear Bieber doesn’t really believe rape constitutes a reason to have an abortion:

‘Um. Well, I think that’s really sad, but everything happens for a reason. I don’t know how that would be a reason. I guess I haven’t been in that position, so I wouldn’t be able to judge that,’ is what Bieber actually said. Now, the magazine has issued another update of the quote, one that makes it clear Bieber believes the unborn child is a human being.

‘I really don’t believe in abortion. I think it [an embryo] is a human. It’s like killing a baby,’ Bieber actually said, with the magazine adding ‘an embryo for context when Beiber was apparently referring to an unborn baby through pregnancy. The magazine admitted an “editing error’ over the quote and said the quote initially released on its web site was ‘incomplete.’ Media reports on the controversy indicate Rolling Stone issued the ‘correction’ prior to handlers for Bieber contacting them about it.
